No problem. I mixed it again last night, and you were right about the bitters. Two solid dashes of each.

Oh, right, sorry about the ratio mistake. For some reason I read it as 2 1 1/4 ounces. I've started to magically see all numbers in terms of jiggers, I think. It might be finals.

2 1/4 : 3/4 is a 3:1 ratio, and yeah, you're right about the dark rum, I didn't have a bottle of what we used hand, but I just went out and bought a new one.

The bitters, that's gonna be taste really. I haven't tried the angostura, but I find that the lemon needs to be slightly higher in proportion, though with dashes from a bottle it's always going to be an inexact science.

Are those the proportions we used? I had it in my mind that we'd had a 3:1 straight ratio of rum to sweet vermouth (and definitly medium rum - with dark rum I'd up the vermouth a bit, though probably just to what you set it at there, so maybe my memory is just going off), with equal parts aromatic and lemon bitters.

Also, have you tried it with angostura aromatic bitters? My suspicion is that it wouldn't work, but who knows..
