Yellow Clearance
October 29th, 2006
Last month, John M. Ford died. While it was, of course, sad, I had added him to the long list of authors who, though alive for a part of my lifetime, did not cross my path until their death.
Today I was reading a post by Mr. Gaiman about the service. I got curious reading the article that Gaiman linked. For one, I live in the Wedge, and it’s not as bad as all that, though Mr. Ford had medical issues which no doubt hurt his financial situation. Regardless, the Wedge is a pretty small neighborhood, and I started to wonder if I’d seem him walking around, and never even realized.
Looking for a picture took me to the Wikipedia article, where I learned that Mr. Ford had written Yellow Security Clearance Black Box Blues for an old RPG called Paranoia. Suddenly it wasn’t about an author I never got a chance to read dying before I could experience his work. It was about the creator of a part of my childhood dying. I loved Yellow Security Clearance, it plays a huge part in one of my favorite childhood memories.
